65-year old Docked for Assaulting Step Mother, Sister in Anambra

Anambra State Police Command has arraigned one Emmanuel Chinedu, 65, who allegedly assaulted his step mother and sister, at the Amawbia Chief Magistrate’s court in Awka.

Chinedu was arraigned on four-count charge of assault and willful damage.

The Prosecutor, DSP. Hojo Ubanna told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on Feb. 25, at Awkwuzu in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra.

“That you did caused emotional, verbal and psychological abuse on one Joy Chinedu who is your step mother by placing her in fear of physical injury, chasing her with a shovel and beating her up.

“That you caused damage to plantain, bitter leave and other economic trees value yet to be ascertained, property of your step mother.

“You also placed Peace Chinedu who is your step sister in fear of physical injury by beating her up, “he said.

Ubanna said the offences contravened Sections 1, 16(1) and 13(1) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition and Protection Law of Anambra State 2017.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs U.E. Onochie granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with a surety in like sum.

Onochie adjourned the case until April 30, for hearing.
