Anambra First Lady Challenges Women to Focus on Raising Morally Upright, Responsible Children

Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo has called on women to take greater responsibility in raising morally upright and responsible children, warning that the rise in social vices among young people is linked to poor parenting.

Speaking at the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center Awka, the Head of Service Anambra State Barr. Theodora Igwegbe, who represented the Governor’s wife stressed the need for women to instill discipline, hard work and positive values in their children.

“We have realized that many young people are not doing well and mothers are being blamed for poor upbringing,” she stated. “We urge mothers to put more effort into raising responsible children so that we can eliminate rascality and criminality in Anambra State.”

The event, themed “Accelerating Action,” also focused on women empowerment and healthy living. The First Lady, through her representative, highlighted government effort to support women, including access to cooperative societies and skill acquisition programs. She also launched a handbook on counseling against drug abuse and social vices.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, urged women to embrace their role as agents of change. She emphasized that a better society starts with responsible parenting at home.

Adding her voice, Mrs. Precious Casmir Nwafor, wife of the Mayor of Orumba North, emphasized the importance of gender equality and need for women to accelerate action in their roles as mothers, wives and leaders.

Speaking on Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s reform programmes, the State President of National Council for Women Societies Mrs. Theresa Nnalue praised government free maternity healthcare, tuitionfree education for primary and secondary schools, road projects and youth empowerment initiatives. She expressed confidence that these programs would solidify public support for Governor second term re-election.
