Chief Onuorah formally joined APGA over the weekend at his country home in Umuenwelum Anam, Anambra West LGA, in the presence of top government functionaries including the State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne , the immediate past member that represented Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Hon. Benjamin C Obidigwe, the APGA National Chairman, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, represented by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Dr Ejimofor Oparah.

Chief David Edochie Onuora addressing APGA Leaders and members during his formal admission ceremony at his Country home, Umuenwelum Anam, Anambra West LGA of Anambra State on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Speaking with newsmen after the event, the philanthropist, explained that he was not switching party for the fun of it, rather it was a strategic move to enable him make greater impacts in the state in line with the Soludo administration.

“It is good to point to Governor Soludo’s growing influence as attracting some bigwigs to his fold. It is commonly said that where the honey is, should be the place for the carcasses to gather,” Onuora stated.

He, was however quick to stress that the attraction was on the quality of Soludo leadership not on resources at his disposal.

“We are gathering not just necessarily because of Governor Soludo, but because God has given Ndi Anambra a visionary, trustworthy, and listening leader in him, with the ability of predictability and the capacity to effectively and efficiently harness human and material resources for the benefit of all.”

Reflecting on Soludo’s early days in office, Onuora acknowledged the criticisms the governor faced but commended him for responding with strategic reforms that have since yielded impressive results.

“Governor Soludo was rabidly criticised in his first year in office as being slow. He listened to criticisms and reorganised his administrative setup, which has produced unimaginable results to the admiration of all and sundry.”

According to Onuora, the governor’s growing goodwill and achievements have positioned him strongly for a second term in office.

“Governor Soludo has gained tremendous goodwill and traction that serves him well and is ready to win him a return to the second tenure in office, and we want to be part of that victory story.”

Onuorah, commended Governor Soludo for his Administration’s giant strides in the socioeconomic development of the State, including construction of Miata Anam-Nzam road, connection of some communities in the area to national grid, ongoing construction of a general hospital at Oroma-Etiti Anam, construction of a befitting Local Government Headquarters at Nzam, among numerous others.

He, however, appealed to the Governor to extend his benevolence to other acces roads in the local government, such as Umuenwelum-Oroma- Umuikwu-Umudora Anam roads, as well as other internal roads in the council to ease the mode of transportation of his people whom he described as the food basket of the State.

On the clampdown on fake native doctors and ezenwanyi by the Anambra State Government, Chief Onuorah described it as a step in right direction because, according to him, most of the native doctors and ezenwanyi have pushed many youths into crimes, through false belief that Okeite, Awele, Aro agba aka and others skyrocket them to an unimaginable success.

Onuora’s defection to APGA, which took place days after Dr. Kennedy Monya, a strong political figure in the area also detected to APGA alongside many others, is expected to further bolster the party’s influence as preparations for the governorship election gathers momentum.
