Federal Government says seasonal climate predictions have immense impacts that informed decisions on farming practices, livelihoods, and food security.
The Director General , Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike stated this during a public presentation of the downscaling of Seasonal Climate Prediction for farmers in Anambra state.
SSpeaking at the event held at the Auditorium of Nnamdi Azikiwe University , Awka, the NiMet DG noted that the seasonal climate predictions were not mere data points but powerful tools that empower farmers across the nation.

Anosike, represented by the Director, Applied Meteorological Services, Mrs Glory Onyegbule, stressed that providing timely, accurate information on climate and weather variations can enhance agricultural production, assist farmers to optimize planting dates, irrigation schedules, and crop management practices.
Doctor Anosike said when farmers follow the predictions, it would directly translate to increased yields and improved food security which is in line with the goal of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
The NiMet DG also noted that early warnings about extreme weather events allow farmers to take preventive measures, protect crops from heavy rains or preparing for droughts, and make informed decisions to save harvests.
The Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, who was represented by his Special Adviser on General Administration, Professor Austin Nnonyelu remarked that climate change was taking its toll on the environment and so needs all hands to be on deck to tackle the situation.
In a remark, the Director , Institute for Maritime Studies, UNIZIK, Professor Ifeanyi Enete noted that NiMet dedication to providing timely and reliable climate forecast has been instrumental in mitigating climate related disasters and enhancing economic productivity across various industries in Nigeria.
