About 613 students, on Saturday, March 1, 2025, took the matriculation oath of Admiralty University of Nigeria, Ibusa, officially gaining admission into the university.

In his welcome address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dili Ofuokwu, welcomed the matriculants to the university, which, according to him, is a fast-growing institution that prioritizes excellence.

He encouraged the students to strive for academic excellence, as their journey in the university would come with various challenges.

His words: “By gaining admission to ADUN, you have opened a new chapter in your life—a time when you will not have parents around to guide you in making decisions.”

“To live a comfortable life in this university, you must obey the laid-down rules. Do well to be where you are supposed to be and at the right time,” the Acting VC said.

Prof. Ofuokwu assured students of the management’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for learning. He also cautioned them against examination malpractice, drug abuse, cultism, improper dressing, and other social vices.

Also speaking at the event, the Matriculation Lecturer, Professor Vincent Aizebeoje Balogun, delivered a lecture titled, “Embarking on a Journey of Excellence: Navigating Academic Success and Responsible Citizenship in Nigerian Universities.”

He urged all matriculants to aim for and plan for success, emphasizing that success does not come on a platter of gold or through unethical means but through determination.

“To be successful in life, you must first make a decision and then set SMART goals. By SMART, I mean Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound,” he stated.

Professor Balogun identified a few hindrances to success and suggested solutions. According to him, these challenges include fear of failure, lack of focus, financial constraints, external pressures, time management issues, and inconsistent study routines.

Earlier at the event, a representative from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) spoke about the negative effects of internet fraud, reiterating the government’s commitment to eradicating the menace among Nigerian youths.
