Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) South East Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) has commended the South East Governors for their leadership qualities and development blueprint.

According to a statement by Zonal Secretary, Doris Chioma Alex, the governors’ developmental strides have greatly impacted the South Eastern region.

The South East ZEC meeting, presided over by Zonal Vice Chairperson Comrade Amaka Agbo with the theme, “Aligning Together for the Purpose of Zone C NAWOJ,” was held in Umuahia, Abia State, marking the first time such an event had taken place.

ZEC expressed satisfaction with the security measures implemented during the Christmas season, urging the Governors to further strengthen security, particularly addressing the rise in ritual killings within the zone.

The council also applauded Abia State’s First Lady, Mrs. Chioma Otti, for hosting the NAWOJ South East Zonal Executive Council meeting.

Additionally, ZEC commended the South East Governors for their leadership qualities and administrative blueprint, which have positively impacted the region.

The council also praised the wives of the five South East Governors for their proactive measures and swift responses to gender-based violence.

While calling for future collaboration between the association and the first ladies to further address the issues, the council demanded amendments to the Violence Against Persons (VAPP) Law to include more stringent measures and expunge the option of fines for perpetrators.

ZEC lamented the growing incidents of domestic violence, particularly spouse battery and killings, and called for a unified voice to end this trend.
The council advocated for journalist training and retraining to ensure they stay updated on new innovations and best practices.
