A former Anambra governorship aspirant under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Edozie Madu, has applauded Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his bold step towards dislodging criminals operating freely in parts of the state.

Madu, who hails from Owerre-Ezukala in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State said the ongoing clampdown on daredevil criminals under Operation Udo Ga-Achi should also be used to revisit past heinous crimes committed by criminals in the state.
He disclosed that it had been two years since ‘Unknown Gunmen’ attacked his country home and nearly assassinated him and his aides.

Speaking with newsmen over the weekend on the incident, Madu recalled that when he managed to escape, the criminals killed one of the security men attached to him, burnt down his mansion, his vehicles and other things they could lay hands on.

Mr. Madu’s country home, burnt down by Unknown Gunmen on February 24, 2023 at Owerre-Ezukala

This incident which took place on the eve of the 2023 Presidential election, he said, left him shattered, yet the criminal activities in the area remained unabated until the recent clampdown.

“For the past two years, these so-called unknown gunmen’ have been in full control of Owerre-Ezukala, they determine who dies and who lives”, he said, even as he alleged that at some point, the criminals began to meddle in land disputes and enforce rules in the community.

“This security situation is not peculiar to Owerre-Ezukala, other communities around Umunze, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North were under siege by these monsters. Therefore, the current onslaught against criminals in the state by the Governor Soludo led government is a welcome development though the result is still far from desirable.

He adds: “As I reminisce on the fatal event of 24th February 2023, Anambrarians want a radical action to clean the Augean stable, one that will see the state return to its pride of place.”
