Several Young Progressives Party (YPP) Councilor candidates who contested in the September 2024 Anambra Local Government Area (LGA) election in Nnewi North LGA of the state, have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group, comprising candidates from various wards in Nnewi, declared their full support for Sir Paul Chukwuma in the upcoming APC governorship primary election on April 6 and the General Election on November 8, 2025 in Anambra State.

Among the former YPP members who crossed over to the APC are Amobi Okonkwo, Chigbo Uzor, Ugochukwu Ofodile, Izuchukwu John Uzochukwu, Nonso Ojukwu, Chidiebere Esione, Uzochukwu Chukwuma, Okanume Onyeka, Ifenna Jinwa, and Stanley Okeke.

In a collective statement, the defectors cited Sir. Chukwuma’s “unbeatable capacity” and suitability for the role as their main reasons for joining the APC. They expressed confidence in his ability to lead Anambra State to prosperity and rescue it from mediocrity.

Hon. Nonso Okafor, former House of Assembly member and coordinator for Sir Paul Chukwuma Primary Campaign Council in Nnewi North LGA, along with Prince Innocent Orizu, the Nnewi North LGA Chairman of the APC, welcomed the defectors with open arms.

The event was attended by numerous APC stakeholders and ward chairmen, who showed their support for the new members of the party.
