NUJ Election: Anambra Govt Denies Backing a Candidate, Insists on Credible Leadership

Anambra State Government has denounced rumors that it has endorsed a candidate for the forthcoming Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra Chapter election, scheduled to hold on January 24, 2024.

Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor in a statement described the rumors as baseless and misleading, urging stakeholders to disregard them.

He maintained that government remains committed to upholding the principles of fairness, transparency, and democracy

He said, “We view these rumors as baseless and misleading, and we urge all stakeholders to disregard them. The Anambra State Government remains committed to upholding the principles of fairness, transparency, and democracy.

“As the election approaches, we wish all contestants and members of the NUJ Anambra Chapter a free, credible, and peaceful election. May the best candidate emerge, and may the union continue to thrive under the leadership of its chosen representatives.

“We recognize the vital role journalists play in our democracy, and we appreciate their tireless efforts to promote truth, accountability, and good governance.

“Once again, the State Government have not endorsed any candidate and assure the public of our commitment to a free and fair election.”
