Yuletide: NOA Urges Community Leaders, Residents To Be Security Conscious

The National Orientation Agency has urged citizens to be Security Conscious saying that the work of security should not be left only in the hands of Government security agents.

Speaking during an engagement meeting with Community Stakeholders at Ogidi, Idemili North LGA, Anambra State, the Community Mobilization Officer, Mrs Emilia Obunike encouraged community leaders to keep sensitizing their people on the need to embrace some security tips which could serve as preventive measures and also aid in curbing crime and criminality.

“We know that Christmas period is a time of intense activities to make ends meet especially as the year draws to a close. High criminal activities are also recorded this period because hoodlums try to cut corners to enrich themselves at the expense of unsuspecting and innocent citizens.

“Be security conscious. Know your neighbors. Do not go out without telling someone where you are going or who you are going out with. Restrict movement when it is dark. Know the kind of people you associate with because some people even so called friends can be desperate.

“Security begins with I and You first, not just for security agents. If you see something say something. If you refuse to say something because you think it does not affect you directly today, tomorrow you or your family member may be the next victim of crime,” she said.

Mrs Obunike also enlightened the Stakeholders on the need to join the campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS, Get rich quick syndrome sayings that there is need to teach youths on the advantages of integrity, hardwork and dignity of labour.

The Community Mobilization Officer also sensitized people on the need to learn the current National Anthem, National Value Charter and embrace the Tax reform bill presently at the floor of the Legislature saying that the tax reforms will address the issue of multiple taxation among other benefits towards the overall good of citizens.

Highlight of the Stakeholders meeting was the presentation of the security consciousness campaign pamphlet to the The Chairman, Idemili North LGA Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Barr Dr. Emeka Onuoha of Oraukwu for further sensitization as a major influencer.
