Aniekwe Launches Empowerment Programme for Farmers in Anambra East, West LGAs

The member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Peter Aniekwe, has launched an empowerment initiative aimed at supporting select farmers in his constituency.

Beneficiaries of the initiative are profiled farmers at Igbokenyi farm settlement in Anambra West, and their counterparts at Igbariam Farm Settlement in Anambra East Local Government area.

The program, held at the Rep Members constituency office at Otuocha, also witnessed the distribution of essential farming equipment, including water pumping machines and water guns, to beneficiary farmers to facilitate dry season farming.

Hon. Peter Aniekwe, explained that the initiative was designed to empower farmers with the necessary tools and training to thrive, especially during challenging dry seasons.

“By providing modern irrigation equipment and hands-on training, we are not only boosting food production in Anambra East and West but also building a foundation for economic self-reliance.

Aniekwe expressed confidence that his empowerment Initiative would lead to “increased yields, strengthen food security, and inspire a new generation of farmers within our communities.”

The training, which was officially flagged off on November 2, 2024, was attended by dignitaries and local agricultural officers, who described it as a game changer in the quest for increase agricultural productivity, using dry season farming.

Mr. Obren Akudu, Acting Executive Director of the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Agency (AIRBDA), represented the Managing Director of the agency, Engr. Gerrard Osuagwu, seized the opportunity to highlight the need for farmers to adopt modern irrigation techniques to boost crop yields.

He commended Hon. Aniekwe for prioritizing agricultural growth, noting that the initiative would enable constituents to achieve a more sustainable livelihood through farming.

Also in his remarks, Hon. I.K. Aniakor encouraged beneficial farmers to remain committed and diligent, assuring them that this second phase of empowerment would significantly enhance their output and foster long-term success in agriculture.

Chief Hon. Sylvester Nnalue, also expressed gratitude for Hon. Aniekwe’s dedication to food security in the constituency. He urged the participants to bring the knowledge gained from the training back to their communities, ensuring widespread agricultural improvement across the region.
