NYSC urges Anambra Government to Upgrade Orientation Camp Facilities

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on Anambra State Government to uplift the facilities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe, NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp located at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

Director, NYSC South East Area Office 1, Mr Ayodele Adegoke who made the appeal while on a familiarisation tour to the state, emphasised that by the legal instruments establishing the NYSC, it is the responsibility of the Federal, State and local government to take care of the NYSC scheme.

He appreciated government’s contributions in the smooth operations of the scheme in the state, but pointed out certain sections of the camp that need urgent upliftment.

“Some of the areas that require rehabilitation include perimeter fencing, landscaping and wire-netting,” he added.

Acknowledging the elaborate office space for the NYSC State Secretariat at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Aroma, Adegoke appealed to the Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board to spare time to visit the NYSC office complex with a view to providing working tools for more effective and efficient service delivery.

Responding, Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board who doubles as the Hon Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Aghamba, promised to visit both the camp and the State Secretariat for on the spot assessment in order to determine the level of government’s intervention.

Aghamba, represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Dr Martins Agbili maintained that issues affecting the NYSC is his ministry’s primary responsibility.

He described the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma as a great achiever, hard-working and meticulous officer.

“The ministry not only takes adequate care of Corps Members posted to the ministry but also offers automatic employment to deserving ex-corps members who served in the ministry,” he stated.
