2nd Anambra Traders Sports Competition Kicks Off In Awka

The second edition of Anambra State Traders Sports competition kicked off Friday, 25th October, 2024, at various centres across Anambra State.

At Awka zone, Odera Market represented by Albert Anene triumphed over Chibuzo Nwankwo of Eke – Oyibo market Awawbia 6-1 in the first Tennis (Table) event which took place at Awka City Sports Club, Amawobia.

In the second match, Uchenna Omeifekwem, also of Odera market defeated his oponent Ndubuisi Anierobi from Eke – Oyibo market in two straight sets, 11-2, 11-2.

Reacting to his victory, Omeifekwem said he felt good beating a much younger oponent

“Table Tennis is my hobby, I started playing since I was in secondary school, I play it for pleasure but if any reward comes in , good,” he said.

In the draught event, the representative of Odera Market beat his opponent from Eke-Oyibo market 2-0.

From Onitsha zone football event, at Godwin Achebe Stadium, Fegge, the Upholstery soccer team defeated their opponents, Main Market by 4-1 in a penalty shootout after the match ended goalless at full time.

Supporters of both teams and soccer fans within the area were treated to a scintillating soccer game.

It is expected that from tomorrow, Saturday 26th October, 2024, actions will commence fully at all the centres in various zones mapped out for the competition. The zones include : Aguata, Awka, Idemili,Onitsha, Oyi, Ogbaru and Nnewi.

The teams will compete in Football, Tennis ( Table and Lawn), Draught and Ncho.

The Anambra Traders Sports Competition is organised by the Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC) in collaboration with Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association ( ASMATA).
