Rotary Club Donates Palliatives to Female Inmates at Onitsha Correctional Facility

Food and other items donated to the female inmates at Onitsha Correctional Centre

Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis has donated assorted items to female inmates at the Onitsha Correctional Centre, Anambra State in celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child.

The items included cartons of sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bathing soap, laundry soap, pens, toilet rolls and detergents.

Speaking during the visit, President of the club, Rotarian Oby Arinze emphasized the importance of the International Day of the Girl Child as an opportunity to reaffirm the club’s commitment to gender equality.

She stressed that their focus on the empowerment of girls and women goes beyond this day, forming a key part of their broader mission.

She said, “This visit is part of the club’s ongoing commitment to the empowerment of girls and women, advocating for their rights and recognizing their potential in society.

“During the visit, the club members took the time to engage with the inmates, offering words of encouragement and support.

“We listened to the personal stories of the inmates, fostering a sense of connection and understanding, and reinforced the belief in second chances and the power of hope.

“Besides the emotional support provided, the club also made donations of essential supplies aimed at improving the living conditions of the female inmates.

“We’ll continue to support the marginalized, particularly women, through acts of service that uplift and inspire hope for a better future.”

Responding, Director of the Onitsha Correctional Centre, Mr. Sunday Igwe expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for their generosity.

He highlighted the significance of their visit, noting how important it was for the inmates to feel remembered, especially the female inmates who often face unique challenges.

Appreciating the Rotary for its dedication, Igwe underscored the Club’s positive impact on the lives of individuals, extending hope and practical support services.
