Education Funding Enhancement Bill will Ensure No Child is Left Behind in Anambra – Lawmaker

Lawmaker representing Ogbaru 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Nonso Igwe has restated his commitment to passing bills that would improve both education and healthcare of people of the state.

Igwe stated this while hosting a group of
youth advocates under the Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI) in collaboration with Leap Africa and Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) who were in his office on advocacy visit.

He said the Anambra State Education Funding Enhancement Bill 2024 would ensure that no child was left behind due to lack of funding or poor infrastructure.

He acknowledged the need to increase funding for schools to ensure that every child in Anambra has access to quality education, irrespective of their financial background.

“The future of Anambra depends on the quality of education our children receive today. This bill is about ensuring that no child is left behind due to lack of funding or poor infrastructure,” he said.

The lawmaker listed other bills under his leadership to include the Anambra State Health Care Trust Fund for the Elderly and Senior Citizens Bill 2024 and the Domestication of the HIV Anti-discrimination Act.

Earlier, Project Manager, Israel Oji said the engagement with the lawmaker was to discuss the urgent need for educational reform in Anambra State.

He said, “The project focuses on youth advocacy for key legislative reforms, with a particular emphasis on the Anambra State Education Funding Enhancement Bill 2024.

“The youth advocates prioritized the Education Funding Bill due to its potential impact on access to quality education for young people in the state.

“The Anambra State Education Funding Enhancement Bill 2024 is highlighted as a top priority because of its focus on improving funding for schools, infrastructure and teaching resources, all of which are critical for providing quality education to the youth.

“The bill seeks to address the funding gaps in the education sector, ensure timely disbursement of education funds, and promote transparency in how these funds are utilized.

“The bill also aims to increase the allocation of government resources towards the construction and maintenance of schools, provision of learning materials, and support for teachersโ€™ welfare.”
