The suspects paraded for alleged illegal tax collection

Anambra state government’s clampdown on illegal tax and mining activities has produced fruits as it paraded 16 suspected revenue collectors and sand miners extorting and intimidating residents and motorists in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Five of the suspects were arrested while operating as government IGR collectors while another 11 were caught dredging sand from unapproved areas sealed off by the state government at Second Niger Bridge.

Parading the suspects in Awka, the Managing Director, Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere said that the suspects who are unknown to the state government intimidate and extort unsuspecting members of public of their hard earned money while dispossessing others of their property.

On sand mining activities across the state, the OCHA brigade boss called on the concerned to adhere strictly to government directives by obtaining necessary permits from authorized state agencies and ministries and warned that the state will continue to deal decisively to anyone or group found wanting. .

The leader of the suspected illegal revenue collectors who were were arrested and paraded, Mr Obiorah Arinze from Ogbaru claimed that he was contracted by a firm known as Nwa Chike-Aba Nigeria Limited and that he was told that they had obtained all necessary government permits to work with all required signatures and stamps.
