STAN: Anambra Wins Best Branch Award, Bronze in Science Quiz Competition

The Best Branch Award Trophy won by Anambra STAN

Anambra State Chapter of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) has won the Best Branch Award (BBA) in Nigeria.

The Chairman, Dr. Bibian Okoye disclosed this when she led a delegation of the association on a courtesy visit to Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh in her office.

She also revealed that a student of St. Patricks College, Awka, Miss Vera Anekwe emerged third position in the STAN Science Quiz competition under the Junior Secondary category.

Okoye who also announced her appointment as the Southeast Coordinator of the body, said about 17 members of the association were honored as fellows.

She said, “The association aims to empower teachers through leadership, opportunities, enhance collaboration among science teachers, keeping them updated on science and industry.

“We engage members in workshops, conferences, relevant journals and examination materials, syllabus, etc, through its various committees.

“We organise zoom and online teachers regularly across the country to update teachers on innovation in teaching and learning of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

“No STEM teacher can deliver effectively, using the desired tools and equipment without enrollment in STAN. STAN sharpens teachers’ implementation of stem.

“That’s why it’s important for every science teacher to be a STAN member because STAN covers a broad number of subjects in secondary schools.

“In our last conference in Abuja in August, Anambra won the best state branch in the whole country. As the state Chairman, I was appointed as the coordinator of Southeast of STAN.

“One of our students, Miss Vera Anekwe took the 3rd best student of Science subjects in Junior Secondary category.”

“About 17 of us got fellows awards. We’ve come to make the presentation to you, Hon Commissioner.”

Responding, the Commissioner congratulated the association and the student for making the state proud, pledging continued support of the Ministry.

She said, “I want to thank you for this honor done to our great state. We’re always on the lead. You’ve just lifted the spirit of Anambra in a very special way.

“I want to pledge the support of the Ministry to the association. Always count on our partnership.

“Your importance cant be over-emphasized. Though we claim arts rule the world, but we also know that science modifies the world.

“Mr Governor’s target is to ensure all our schools are lifted to smart schools so science can take its rightful place in the educational space.

“To the student, I congratulate you and urge to keep the fire burning.”
