Int’l youth day: Sieze opportunities in digital space to succeed – NAWOJ tells Anambra youths

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Anambra Chapter has joined the world in acknowledging the importance of youths in making the world a better place.

The Chairperson, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, in a statement challenged youths particularly Ndi Anambra youths to make most of the opportunities that abound in the digital space and endeavor to only click their ways to progress and not to align with destructive vices.

She also encouraged them to be focused and utilize every opportunity at their disposal to succeed and make their families, State and society at large proud.

The statement reads, “Today we celebrate all the youths worldwide being International Youth Day. It is a day set aside by the United Nations to recognize the potential, achievements and contributions of young people in nation building across the globe.

“In 1999, the UNGC approved the recommendation from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, leading to the establishment of International Youth Day. The first commemoration of this day took place on August 12, 2000.

“The theme for this year’s celebration “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development “ is apt in this age of digital prowess where both the good and the bad are obtainable, we enjoin the youths particularly Ndi Anambra youths to make most of the opportunities that abound in the digital space and endeavor to only click their ways to progress and not to align with destructive vices.

“We acknowledge the importance of youths in nation building and that they are the focal point in the process of progress and development in every society. We therefore, commend the United Nations for setting aside a day like this to celebrate the youths and are mindful of all the challenges confronting them.

“We encourage Ndi Anambra youths to be focused and utilize every opportunity at their disposal to succeed and make their families, State and society at large proud.

“International Youth Day is highly significant as it offers a chance to recognise and celebrate the valuable qualities of young people and their potential to shape the future of nations. It also serves as a reminder of the challenges youth face globally, such as educational barriers, limited access to healthcare, and economic instability.

“As an advocacy group, we call for the relevant bodies to recognize our emerging leaders and provide them with the tools needed to address global challenges in society and recognising their contributions to development. It’s a day to acknowledge their potential and achievements while also addressing the challenges they face.

“To all our great youths, doing incredible stuff to make our homes and societies better, you’re the real heroes of our time.

“Today and always, we’ll continue to celebrate and acknowledge your extraordinary bravery, dreams, vision, and handwork. Happy International Youth Day to you all.

“The world is yours to transform!”
