Anambra Commissioner Bags “Mother of English” Award in Ojukwu varsity

Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh has been presented with an award of Mother of the Department of English Language in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Igbariam campus.

The award was presented in an impressive ceremony, during a courtesy visit in her office, at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat Complex Awka.

⁷Head of Department of English Language, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Ikechukwu Asika, who led a delegation of lecturers and students of the Department, stated the award was informed by the tremendous activities and efforts of Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh towards the growth of the Department.

“As a student, staff, and Head of Department, I witnessed the tremendous activities and efforts of Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh which led to the growth of the Department.

“All these formed the base for the undisputed decision of the Department, that the honour as the Mother of the Department of English Language cannot be go to any other than Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh,” he said.

The occasion also featured the presentation of poems by the winners of the winners of Ngozi Chuma-Udeh Award for Poetry competition. The Commissioner also presented prizes to the winners.

Responding, Chuma-Udeh described the award as highly cherished, pledging to return to the school as soon as she was done with State service.

“Academic environment is indeed the place to be. The award highly cherished, coming from her costituency which she has missed a lot.

“I’ll definitely come back to the department, once I’m done with State service,” she added.
