Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi formally takes the reigns as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on Monday, 22nd July 2024.
Prof. Umobi took over in a peaceful transition of power held at the Vice-Chancellor’s office succeeding the immediate past acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, who was removed from office last weekend following a memo signed by the Chairman Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of the institution, His Excellency Amb. Greg Mbadiwe.
The council had initially met last Saturday and despite a stalemate during the meeting, Amb Mbadiwe handed Prof. Umobi her appointment letter to pilot the affairs of the university for six months pending the election of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Media and Publicity, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu while briefing journalists immediately after the handover ceremony held at the Council Chambers on Monday informed that Prof. Umobi will act for a non-renewable term of six months and will not be part of the contest for a substantive Vice-chancellorship position.
