The All Progressive Congress APC, Anambra State chapter has hailed the Supreme Court judgment on the contentious local government autonomy and resource control as ‘sweet music’ to the ears of the suffering masses of Anambra State.

The party in a statement signed by its (Anambra) State Publicity Secretary, Okelo Mmadukaife, noted that no other state in Nigeria had suffered under the system of systematic pilferage of Local Government funds like Anambra. According to him, the Supreme Court had finally freed the people of the state from the APGA led government vice grip on the local government resources and control.

“The Supreme Court judgement of is the
best liberation news Anambra State has heard since July 10, 2003, liberation from the feet of leechy godfathers, under the arrowhead of Gov. Chris Ngige”, declared the Anambra APC Spokesman.

The statement read further:
“For 25 years since 1999, Zik’s own state has not had the opportunity to elect its own officials except in December 2013 to cover the two-year period between 2014 and 2016 when autocracy returned.

“Even that lone election was fundamentally floored to the extent that it was conducted with a faulty voter register, and the results were resisted as the ruling APGA under Gov. Peter Obi refused to handover to the victorious Labour Party (LP) in Nnewi North LG and victorious Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in Ihiala and Ogbaru.

“So sad was the situation that the victory of PDP in the courts were not respected. Of course, APC boycotted the elections based on the fundamental flaws, which also marred the 2013 governorship elections in the state.

“Against this background, the Supreme Court judgement of is the
best liberation news Anambra State has heard since July 10, 2003, liberation from the feet of leechy godfathers, under the arrowhead of Gov. Chris Ngige.

“It is an epoch-making moment, and APC that has led this struggle will not fail to savour this moment.

“APC, it was which went to court in 2017 and got a judgement in May 2018 for LG polls to be conducted, but the honeypot of stolen LG funds was too attractive to APGA to consider the growth of Anambra State through competing LGs.

“We salute the Supreme Court and the Judiciary on this landmark judgement and trust that those with good intent to serve Anambra State in the 21 LGs will gear up to offer themselves for elections, instead of stealthily becoming ‘Caretaker Chairmen’ and ‘Caretaker Councillors’.

“Our dynamic chapter of APC congratulate the Federal Government for this bold initiative that produced this outcome and rejoice with Nigerians on the new dawn in LG administration, which will boost grassroot governance and the economy for good.
