House of Rep Suspend Legislative Seating over Death of ‘Jagaban’

A member of the House of Representatives and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Olajide Akinremi, has passed on.

The lawmaker popularly known as Jagaban, died on Wednesday, July 10 after a brief illness.

Confirming his death, a formal terse notice from the House leadership read: “Dear colleagues, the House regrets to announce the death of a serving member Hon. Akinremi Jagaban. We will keep you updated as regards to the latest development.

Also announcing his demise, the Spokesperson of the House, Hon Akin Rotimi, described Akinremi who served as Chairman of the House Committee on Science Research Institutions as a distinguished and ranking member of the 10th Assembly.

He said, “As a ranking member, Rep. Akinremi had keen institutional memory and was a mentor to many first-time parliamentarians, guiding them with wisdom gained from his extensive experience in legislative affairs.”

Until his death, the 51-year-old federal lawmaker represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State

As it is the tradition of the National Assembly, plenary and committee activities are to be suspended to allow members mourn and honour their colleague.

Akinremi was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2019, and was reelected in the 2023 general election.
