ACTDA Partners Anambra Police Command to Restore Law and Order in Awka

In a bid to restore order and decency in Awka’s three arm zone, the Anambra State Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) in collaboration with Anambra State Police Command has launched a sensitization campaign for Tricycle riders and traders.

Tricycle riders and street traders were advised to use designated parks and market for loading and unloading passengers and buying and selling respectively, instead of conducting their business in the area that housed the State Assembly Complex, Government House, State and Federal Secretariat, and the Federal High Court.

Addressing Journalists in Awka, during the sensitization exercise,
the Divisional Police Officer B Division, Mr. Vena Leelea who represented Anambra State Police Command warned drivers against the blockage of roads at Aroma and other places in the State. He advised the group on the importance of maintaining law and order in the state capital while conducting their transportation business.

The managing director, ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko, stated that the Agency efforts to restore order in Awka include daily enforcement to protect lives and property.

Mr. Onuko represented by the Deputy Commander of ACTDA, Mr. Ukachukwu Okonkwo, stressed that the heart of Awka must be free from street trading and roadside sales to prevent accidents. He assured that their work would continue into the night, urging citizens to adhere to designated trading areas.

In his remarks, the Coordinator of Keke Drivers in Anambra and Recover Nigeria Project Comrade Osita Obi commended the police and ACTDA for taking up the challenges of securing the capital city for good.

According to him, Aroma-Awka was a peculiar place that needs special attention , noting that all arms of the state government are located around Aroma and needed to be properly guarded.

He however said that those creating problems at Aroma are not the drivers but group of cultists in Awka.

He called on the police to take Special note of these boys who are bent on creating problems around Aroma as they don’t go into the park but prefer to load on the roads therefore obstructing traffic and free movement.

He pleaded with the DPO to take Special note of these menace and mobilize his men adequately to tackle them.

“We don’t want anybody dead,we want Awka to be clean, decent and calm. I got a report this morning that these boys came to park to force the drivers to pay money” he said.
