Tension envelopes the ancient city of Kano following reports that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano. This development follows the Kano State House of Assembly’s resolution to dethrone the current Emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, and abolish the four new Emirates created in 2019.

Although an official announcement is yet to be made, sources close to the matter have confirmed that Sanusi II’s reinstatement is a done deal. He is expected to return to Kano on Friday, May 24, to resume his duties as the Emir.
According to a source, “With the passage of the Bill, Sanusi automatically stands reinstated. There’s no need for confirmation; we’re just waiting for the Governor’s assent.”

This development marks a significant reversal of the state government’s decision on March 9, 2020, when Sanusi was dethroned and replaced by Aminu Ado-Bayero, who was transferred from the Bichi Emirate to Kano.
The reinstatement of Sanusi II is a major victory for his supporters and a testament to the power of democracy and the rule of law. As the news spreads, Kano residents are eagerly awaiting the official announcement and the return of their beloved Emir.
