NGO Offers Scholarship to Indigent Nigerians in Secondary, Tertiary Schools

A non-governmental organization, the IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation, IGAHAF has announced commencement of applications for its education scholarship for students of secondary and tertiary institutions across the country.

The application will begin from Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 28, 2024.

Under the 2024 edition, the Foundation will be accepting scholarship applications from students in Junior Secondary Schools (JS1 to JS3), Senior Secondary Schools (SS1 to SS3), and tertiary institutions including Federal and State Universities, Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, Nursing schools, and other related institutions.

Speaking during a press conference to mark the commencement of the scholarship application, Chairman of the Foundation, Ozo Ignatius Onyeka Aguowo noted that the Foundation has over 300 persons under its scholarship programme, explained that the decision to take applications this year is to ensure that the opportunity is open to everyone that needs it.

Aguowo who spoke through Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Peace Chukwu, explained that the scholarship was aimed at supporting indigent and talented students across Nigeria.

“This scholarship opportunity is open to students across all 36 states of Nigeria and Abuja who demonstrate exceptional academic prowess and need financial assistance.

“Students from public schools are particularly encouraged to apply, while mission and private schools with low school fees are also welcome to submit their applications.

“From June 3, 2024, Interested applicants should visit the Ig Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation website at www.igahaf.org to submit their applications following the outlined guidelines and procedures.

“Our Foundation will carefully review all applications and shortlist candidates who meet the criteria for participation in the scholarship examination.

“For secondary school students, the examination will cover English Language, Mathematics, and Igbo language. Tertiary students will be tested on the use of English, Igbo language, and critical thinking skills.

“Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take the examination in Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria. The venue shall be communicated,” Aguowo said.

Aguowo, who is known for his philanthropic efforts and leadership in various organizations, said the foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to supporting the education and well-being of the less privileged.

Contributing, Executive Director of the Foundation, Mrs Gloria Abanihe revealed that successful candidates who passed the examination will be awarded fully-funded scholarships starting from their current academic level through their tertiary education.

“ It is worth noting that Ig Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation currently supports 350 beneficiaries and aims to add 200 more beneficiaries this year, bringing the total to 550 by the end of 2024,” she said.

Abanihe, who spoke on the personality of the owner of the foundation, Chief Aguowo, said despite his influence and resources, he is recognized for his apolitical stance, focusing solely on giving back to the community through his foundation.

“He has made significant contributions to society by empowering numerous individuals, particularly indigent and talented students, with scholarships and educational support.

“His commitment to philanthropy and dedication to improving the lives of others have earned him a reputation as a philanthropist par excellence in Anambra State and beyond. Through his initiatives, he has positively impacted the community, providing opportunities for education and personal growth to those in need.

“It is important to note that this scholarship does not have any political undertone, but is purely the Chairman’s genuine way of giving back to the society that made him,” she emphasized.
