Onitsha cantonment needs more projects for improved living condition – Army Chief tells legislator

Commander 302 Artillery Regiment Col Mohammed Abubakar has commended Rt Hon David Ogewu, Member representing Oju/Obi Federal Constituency and Vice Chairman Committee on Army, National Assembly Abuja for his zeal and dynamic approach to his over sight functions.

Abubakar made the commendation during the lawmaker’s visit to the Onitsha military Cantonment as part of his oversight functions.

He urged the legislator to ensure he attracted more projects for better living condition for the officers and men of the military cantonment, Onitsha.

He promised that he and his men would continue to carry out their duty with total commitment.

Ogewu was also at Anambra State Government House for courtesy visit to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and was received by Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim who commended the Army authority, especially those in the state for assisting in reducing spate of insecurity in the state.

He assured that Anambra which has remained the most peaceful State in Nigeria would continue to accord the Army all necessary support to ensure they performed maximally.

Ogewu had earlier honored the request of the Igede community in Anambra who, despite short notice had converged to receive their son, commending him for the wonderful work he is doing within such short time in office.

“Indeed, blood is thicker than water. With Igede blood flowing through his veins, our honorable member had to break protocol to meet his people. We encourage him to continue the good work,” Rev Genesis Onah said.

The cleric later presented a bible to the lawmaker on behalf of the Igede community.

Also speaking, former President of Omi Ny’Igede Anambra/Delta State Chapter, Evang Patrick Akobo Ulaka described Ogewu as a guiding light, an iconic leader and an inestimable gift to Igede people of Benue State, Nigeria and humanity.

He urged all sons and daughters of Igede tribe to continue to pray for the lawmaker who has proved to be a light shining over entire Igede land.

“Forces of darkness will surely fight against the light but darkness cannot comprehend light hence, with God victory is sure.

“On behalf of Igede Community in Anambra State I commend Rt Hon Ogewu for the work that is already in progess on Oju – Adum – Iyahe Cross River road, especially the quality of work so far.

“I also thank him for the proposed Oju – Uwokwu – Ebonyi road which motion is before National Assembly and for which Rt Hon Ogewu has held a special meeting with Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru to construct Oyonge River Bridge to ease communication/transportation and open the neighboring communities to economic and social transformation.

Responding, Hon. David Ogewu assured the Igede community of his committment to qualitative representation of his people, including comprehensive development of his constituency.

“The days of the cancarwarm and locust are gone. I’m committed by God’s grace to qualitative representation of my people which will manifest in massive all round development for my constituency,” he said.

The event attracted Commanders, Officers of the 302 Artillery Regt (General Support) and 14 Field Engineer Regiment Onitsha, including Lt Col Ayuba Nandang Commanding Officer 14 Field Engineer Regiment, Lt Col Ngai 2ic 302 AR, Maj EU Andy OC Military Police, among others.

It also witnessed a guard of honor mounted for the lawmaker who was taken round various projects site in the barracks.
