Anambra Butchers Recieve New Refrigerated Van to End Wheelbarrow Meat Delivery

Anambra State Government has handed over a Refrigerated Meat Van donated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) to the leadership of National Union of Butchers, Anambra Chapter.

Presenting the Van to the President of the Association, Chief Afam Okeke, Commissioner For Agriculture, Dr Forster Ihejiofor said the van was provided to solve challenges posed by unhygienic means of transporting meat from abattoirs to markets.

He described as worrisome and serious health challenges, use of wheelbarrows to transport meat, saying government considered it worthy to introduce better means of conveying meat to forestall such menace.

He however urged the association to complement government’s initiative by providing more vans for efficient transportation of meat from abattoirs to markets across the state.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Ifeyinwa Uzoka reiterated the need for Butchers to establish good working relationship with Veterinary Technicians to rid the state of disease infested meat.

Those who were present at the occasion included State Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Rose Basil Ejidike, Dr Godwin Ibekwe of the Veterinary Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Executive members of National Union of Butchers, Anambra State Chapter.
