Thank you for your loan, but we need grant – NANS tells Tinubu

National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) Anambra State has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing the students loans, which it said would assist students to complete their studies without hitches.

Chairman Joint Campus Council (JCC), Anambra State Axis, Comr. Mathew Okoye Okpala who made the commendation in a press conference in Awka shortly after his election victory held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, however pleaded with the President to also look into the students’ grants.

He further drew Tinubu’s attention to the prevailing insecurity challenges across campuses in the zone, stressing that the protection of lives and properties of Nigerians remained his major responsibility.

He also urged both Red and Green Chambers of Nigerian parliament to look into the power sector and ensure electricity tariff remained affordable by Nigerians.

“We in the students community want to convey our most gratitude to our father and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the signing of the students loans, which will help in making sure that Nigerian students complete their studies without any hitches, we plead that the students’ grant should equally be look into,” he said.

The JCC helmsman also praised Anambra state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo for his developmental strides across the state, but called on his government to commence process of capturing students in the state in the budget of expenditure.

He however warned against increments of school fees or any unnecessary fees, insisting that such actions were unacceptable in the campuses.

“We want to say a very big thank for having Anambra people at heart, We in the students community will always be there for you and the state, and promised to stand by you on your developmental plans.

“We also want to say a very big thank you to the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka for providing a level playing ground for a successful election. Thank you prof. Charles Esimone.”

Okpala further called on institutions in the state without elected Students Union Government to quickly commence process of conducting the exercise.

“All the higher institution in Anambra State, who do not have a standing elected Students Union Government should kick-start a process to conduct SUG Election in due time

“Any intimidation from any management to our students, we the students leadership will resist such act and accompany it with actions.

“We also want to thank the President of the National Association of Nigerian students’ Comr. Lucky Emenofe for making sure the students loans come to โ€œrealityโ€, thank you once again Mr. President of NANS.

“We appreciate the powerful Coordinator of freedom Zone, NANS Zone-F Comrade Chidi Nzekwe, for standing with the truth and making sure the right thing is done, thank you my coordinator,” he added.

Okpala, a Political Science student of Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University, defeated Ifeanyi Chukwuemeka of UNIZIK in the election described as credible by pioneer JCC Chairman, Comrade Patrick Afubera.
