The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and Eurobase Consult Ltd., an agro company have called on Nigerians to ensure sustainable food security in the country through agro mechanisation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Eurobase Consult Ltd. is in partnership with 20 International Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
They made the call at a news conference on Friday in Abuja on the proposed special agro equipment and technology expo slated for April 16 in Abuja.
The expo is tagged” Sustainable Food Security and Agro Produce Export through Mechanisation.”
The Group Chairman, Eurobase Consult Ltd., Mr Don Ekesiobi, said the special agro expo was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency on food security.
He said that the group’s target was mechanisation as well as technology to tackle food inflation in the country.
Ekesiobi said that the partnership with the Government was also to enhance agro produce export through mechanisation.
Ekesiobi said that the government could not do it alone without the support of private participation, hence, the need to organise a stakeholders engagement targeted to resolve the food crisis in Nigeria.
” There is a need for us to come together as a nation to brainstorm and provide immediate solutions in the form of short and long term interventions,” he said.
Ekesiobi said the programme would provide a great opportunity to highlight the importance of sustainable food security, as well as the role of mechanisation to enhance food security.
” It will also showcase a wide range of agricultural equipment and machinery aimed at enhancing productivity, efficiency and sustainability in agriculture,” he said.
He said that the event would also demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector, and promoting technological advancement in agriculture.
” The stakeholders` engagement would provide a platform for farmers, agricultural stakeholders, and industry experts to exchange knowledge, ideas and best practices,” he said.
Ekesiobi said that there would be interactive demonstrations and presentations on innovative agricultural practices and mechanisation solutions at the event.
He said that mechanisation would encourage youths in the country to embrace farming and boost food security in the country. (NAN)
