Journalist were on Wednesday reportedly barred from entering the venue of the ongoing National Convention of the Labour Party (LP) holding at the Grand Seasons Hotel, Nnewi, Anambra state.

Observers described the development as not just disturbing, but unbecoming and inexplicable, just as the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiorah Ifoh had refused to pick his calls nor respond to text messages.

Series of calls and messages were sent to him urging him to approach the front desk with necessary materials, but Ifoh who was said to have remained inside the building early morning did not show up for more than three and half hours.

Meanwhile, no fewer than five hoodlums
were arrested and whisked away to the police headquarters while reportedly distributing inciting leaflets critical of the party leadership.

The suspects were accused of trying to cause chaos and destabilize the ongoing convention in connivance with their sponsors.

LP has been experiencing crisis following leadership tussle over who becomes the national chairman of the party, a move many political watchers see as discouraging.

But one of the delegates who spoke to our correspondent in confidence, said the leaders were currently managing every information.
