Sales Girl Jailed 6 Months with Hard Labour for Stealing Phones

A Mapo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Tuesday, sentenced a 23- year old sales girl, Nafisat Abayomi to six months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing two Itel mobile phones worth N90,000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji, held that the prosecution has proven its case beyond reasonable doubt for the court to convict her.

Latunji warned the convict to desist from involving in any form of act of criminality after completing her jail term because she would be given stiffer punishment if caught again.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp Oluseye Akinola told the court that Abayomi committed the crime on March 12, at about 5 p.m at Asanike-Madina area of Ibadan, in Oyo.

The prosecutor said the convict worked as a sales girl at a business centre where customers charge their mobile phones with the use of a generator set.

He said that Mrs Muinat Sarafa, the complainant gave the convict two Itel phone worth N90,000 to help her charge.

He said the convict disappeared with the phones and was later caught in Lagos State.

Akinola added that nemesis caught up with the convict when some members of ‘Agbekoya’ a vigilante group working with the Nigeria police tracked her to Aja in Lagos State at the point of selling the phones.

He said she was subsequently taken to Idiaro police station in Ibadan. (NAN)
