Members of Anambra State House of Assembly have called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Works to extend the ongoing construction of Amansea /Awba Ofemili Road in Awka North Local Government Area to Umerum in Ayamelum Local Government Area.
The lawmakers who sponsored the motion were: Hon Abuchi Udemezue, Hon Ebuka Igwe, Hon Noble igwe Hon Patrick Udoba, Hon Obi Nweke, Hon Jude Ngobili, Hon Jude Umennujiego, Hon Ikwunne Chimezie & others.
The lawmakers said extension of the road would ease the cost of transporting agricultural goods and produce from Ayamelum LGA to Awka, the State Capital.
The motion read in part,” Aware, there is an ongoing road constructions at Amansea/Awba Ofemili in Awka North L.G.A, extending it to Umerum, will be 15 minute drive to Awka the state capital from Ayamelum LGA.
“Further aware of the economic potentials that will be realize by the state government, if Ayamelum LGA is connected to the state capital by Amansea/Awba Ofemili Road through Umerum as it will ease the cost of transporting agricultural goods and produce from Ayamelum LGA to Awka, the State Capital.
“Mindful that the single route in and out of Ayamelum has been a security threat, an alternative route will throw more challenges to the kidnappers and other criminals operating on this only route in and out of Ayamelum LGA and its environs.
“Be it therefore resolved by this Honourable house that: The Anambra state house of assembly applauds the state governor Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo (CFR) for the ongoing road construction at Amansea / Awba Ofemili Road and urges him to direct the commissioner for works to extend the construction to Umurum in Ayamelum LGA.
