The Nigeria Civil Service Union (NSCU) has appealed to the Federal Government to be fair in the implementation of Oronsaye Report and ensure workers do not lose their jobs.

Mr Asogwa Gupada, President of the Union, FCT chapter, made the appeal at the union’s 58th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.

“The Federal Government is set to implement the Oronsaye Report, which recommended the merging of some MDAs in order to cut the cost of governance.

“Our stand is that the federal government should be fair in the implementation of the Report. We do not want to lose our jobs,”he said.

Gupada reiterated the union’s call on the government to trim down political appointees at all level of governance to save the huge sum of money used in maintaining the offices.

He said it was unfair for the government to prioritise MDA’s merger above reducing its wasteful expenditure and appointments.

Gupada said the Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage was on course and that workers were looking forward to a living wage that would be sustainable.

“We are looking at the N709,000 as proposed by the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC).

“We believe that workers should be paid a living wage as recommended by the union,” ‘ he said.

Gupada also called on the government to address the issue of banditry to boost farming and other economic activities.(NAN)
