Two traders on Friday appeared before a Lugbe Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly reconnecting electricity line illegally.
The police charged Maledo Greg, 34, and David Nwadike, 35, with conspiracy and mischief.
The defendants, both of whom reside at Plot 755, Centenary Crescent, Durumi, Abuja, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr Olisa Okeke, had told the court that one Mr Joseph Mbu reported the matter at the Durumi Police Station on March 11.
Okeke alleged that the defendants conspired on March 9 and reconnected an electricity line in their apartment.
The prosecutor said that the electricity line was earlier disconnected by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
According to him, the defendantsโ action caused damage to some electrical appliances in the building, such as bulbs, air conditioners and fans.
He said that the worth of the damaged property had yet to be ascertained.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of one million Naira each with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until May 2 for hearing. (NAN)
