Court Remands 2 Teenagers Theft of Building Materials

A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, has remanded two teenagers for allegedly breaking into shops and stealing building and electrical materials worth N872,000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji, gave the ordered for remand of Emmanuel Saviour, 18, and Godwin Apabio, 17, due to their failure to meet their bail conditions.

She directed that the teenagers should be kept at the Agodi correctional facility until fulfilment of the bail conditions.

Latunji had granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each.

She adjourned the case until March 18 for commencement of trial.

Earlier, the prosecution, Insp Oluseye Akinola, told the court that the defendants were charged on five counts bordering on conspiracy, breaking in and stealing.

Akinola said that the teenagers committed the crimes on Feb. 24, Feb. 26 and March 8 at Atowoda area of Ibadan at 8.00 a.m.

According to the prosecutor, the teenagers broke into the shops of Messrs Olalekan Olalere, Rasheed Olatunji and Bolaji Omolafe and stole a bag of copper wire valued at N120, 000 and other items.

According the prosecutor, the other items include two bags of nail valued at N40, 000, 10 pieces of motor coil wortg N100, 000 and a motor jack worth N3, 000.

He added that the defendants stole some motor spare parts valued at N180, 000, one submissive pumping machine worth N100,000, an angle iron valued at N32,000, and ordinary iron rod valued at N10,000.

According to Akinola, the convicts also stole six 6kg gas cylinders worth N60,000,a set of solar machine, valued at N100,000, hair treatment, hair relaxer and shampoo, and some electrical wires valued at N127,000.

Saviour pleaded guilty to counts two and four while Apabio pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 516, 413, 390 (9) of the Criminal Code of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)
