A 13- year old boy, Goodluck Onwe has been rescued by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Enugu State.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, Okadigbo Edwin who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said the victim was rescued while wandering the streets of Abakaliki.

He said the victim had since been reunitedbwith his family in Anambra State.

He said, “The little boy was seen wandering the streets of Abakaliki before he was rescued on the 4th of February, 2024 at about 1300hrs by operatives of NSCDC Ebonyi State Command.

“Investigation reveals that the said boy stays with a relative in Abakaliki but ran away from home with an intent to return to his parents who resides at Peter Okonkwo Street Aguleri, Anambra East LGA, Anambra State.

“Subsequently, NSCDC Anambra State Command was contacted by Ebonyi State Command to trace the origin and parents of the Child.

“In response, the Command made a frantic effort to locate his parents for identification and collection. After a detailed verification process, the boy has been handed over to Mr. Onwe Sabastine his father.”

Commenting on the circumstances surrounding the boy’s deviant behavior, the State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, Anambra State Command, Olatunde Maku advised parents / guardians not to practice authoritarian, permissive and neglectful style of parenting but rather adopt parenting of a child with love and understanding.

“Parenting is not an easy job, it involves responsibilities that seem to change every day. The daily tasks and roles one perform as a parent are bound to change as the child gets older.

“Parents should adapt the parenting of a child with love and understanding, without unnecessary display of authority over their children which instills fear in them to always run away from home” he said.

Head of Investigation and intelligence Department, Deputy Commandant Reuben Dennis, after interviewing the boy, urged parents/guardians to be vigilant and monitor movement of their children as well as the people they associate with in order not to fall victim to abduction, trafficking, kidnapping and other emerging social vices.
