Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo on Wednesday reiterated his administration’s determination to sustain the dream of making the state the Information and Communication Technology haven of the country.
The governor stated this at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Orientation Course held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
Soludo, represented by Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha-mba urged corps members grounded in ICT to be systematically engaged during their service year.
He listed the areas of interest to include software engineering, IT support and security, system analysis system design, networks and database administration as well as web and multimedia.
He said, “The programme, no doubt will have tremendous impact on the youth as they will make them acquire digital skills, provide room for employable citizenry, reduce youth restiveness and promote peace, harmony and economic growth.
“My administration has also diversified from hydrocarbon (diesel) powered street lights to sustainable solar powered ones.
“This significant step towards sustainability and renewable energy will not only reduce our carbon footprint but also save costs in the long run.
“We also want your support in creating a greener and more environmentally friendly state.”
While commending corps members for always being vanguard for assisting government and non-government organizations to realise their dreams, Soludo pledged continued support to the scheme morally and financially.
Earlier, NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Iruma urged corps members to adhere strictly to laws of their host communities and the established rules and regulations of the NYSC.
She also encouraged them to engage meaningfully in community development projects, making positive impact in the lives of the people they serve.
“It is important to respect the cultures and traditions of the communities you will be serving in.
“Active participation in the Community Development Service is a vital aspect of the NYSC programme.
“The primary assignment presents an excellent opportunity for corps members to contribute to the socio-economic development of Anambra State.
“I implore each corps member to approach their assignments with dedication, innovation, and a strong desire to make a difference,” she said.
