Anambra Agro Business Owners to Get Canada Expo Training, Market Links

A 4-day ‘Export Support Training’ for 50 people, mostly youths and women in agro business, have commenced in Awka; the Anambra State capital.

The training is being organized by Anambra state government, through the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Empowerment Programme, in partnership with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Trade Facilitation Office, TFO, Canada.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Youth Empowerment Programme, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, the training program was designed to expose participants to opportunities that abound in export business; in order to expand business, maximize profit and create jobs.

Omenugha, who participated in the opening ceremony of the training, said successful participants in the first phase of the program would be selected for what he called ‘Canada expo’, and encouraged youths to take advantage of opportunities that abound in agriculture.

He called for continued support to Governor Soludo, whom he said is determined to equip youths with the right skills and offer them opportunity to export the skills for the purpose of expanding businesses and placing the state on the global map, adding that more of such programs are being packaged for Anambra people.

Also speaking on behalf of the President, Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, the Director of the Business Enterprenuership Skills and Technology Centre of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Tinuke Temitope, said because of high demand for African products in the international market, the program is packaged to upscale and support SMEs in agro value chain to meet demands in agro processed foods in the international market.

She informed that after “export readiness assessment”, interested participants will be helped to link with available markets for export.

Participants at the training, including Mr. Rowland Ohazulike, and Chidimma Oramali, commended the Soludo administration for the program they said has exposed them more on exportation, adding that when they go into export, profits must surely be maximized and jobs created for the unemployed.
