Ekwunife Condemns Gruesome Murder of Umuoji PG, Calls for Greater Security Vigilance

The Director General of South East Governors Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife has described the gruesome murder of Mr. Silas Onyima, the President General of Umuoji community in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State as a cowardly and condemnable act.

Ekwunife, a former Senator for Anambra Central Senatorial zone, in a statement issued through her media aide, Mr. Tony Ezike, described the killing of the community leader as a great loss to the state.

The statement read in parts: “The cowardly act perpetrated by unknown assailants has left Umuoji community and Anambra State shaken and stands condemned.

“Silas Onyima was not just a leader; he was a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for the people of Umuoji. His unwavering dedication to the betterment of the community and his selfless service will forever be remembered.

Ekwunife condemned the rising cases of Killings in the state, stressing that Igbo culture forbids killing of kinsmen. “It is not the culture of Igbos to kill their kinsmen.”

She also urged citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in their neighborhoods.

“We must stand united against the forces of darkness that seek to disrupt our peace and harmony. It is incumbent upon each and every one of us to mind the company we keep, businesses we transact and report any suspicious activities or movements to the relevant authorities promptly.”

She went further: “Security is everybody’s business. The government cannot do it alone. It is difficult for government to provide security for all citizens without sharing of relevant information.

“The security and well-being of every citizen is paramount, and we must work together with the law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Justice must prevail for Silas Onyima and his grieving family, and those responsible must be brought to account for their actions.

“As we mourn the loss of Silas Onyima, let us honor his memory by reaffirming our commitment to peace, unity, and progress in Anambra State. Together, we will overcome this challenging time, and together, we will build a safer and more prosperous future for all.
