The Nigerian Senate on Thursday, passed a bill for an Act to establish the South-East Development Commission (SEDC).
The Bill was passed after it was read for the third time during the plenary of the red carpet chamber and will be transmitted to President Bola Tinubu for immediate assent.
The Senate unanimously took the decision at the Committee of the whole chaired by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio after consideration of the South East Development Commission bill by the Senate leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti central.
Meanwhile, the commission will be charged with the responsibility to receive and manage funds from allocation of the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damages suffered by the region as a result of the effect of the bloody civil war that took the lives of over three million Igbos.
