The Anambra State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has formally inaugurated the Civil Defence Officer’s Wives Association (CDOWA) in the state.
Performing the inauguration ceremony at the State Command Headquarters, Awka, Assistant Commandant General ( ACG ) in charge of Zone K, Awka, ACG Solomon Iyamu, said the association provides a platform to exchange ideas, interact and provide benefits to members, as a support system to families of deceased personnel, retired and serving personnel of the Corps.
He commended the State Commandant, Maku Olatunde for revamping the association in the state, saying its aim is noble in promoting the welfare of the families of officers and men of the corps.
“The welfare of our personnel is of utmost importance in the Corps. It is a known fact that personnel perform best in his line of duty when he knows that his family back at home is taken care of .
“I therefore do not doubt that the activities of CDOWA will support and augment our official efforts in taking care of that which cannot be regimented,” he said.
Comdt. Maku Olatunde, the State NSCDC boss in his address lauded the efforts of Hajiya Aishatu Ahmed-Audi, CDOWA National President for her giant strides in the development of frameworks upon which the association is being inaugurated in the state.
He commended the complimentary role played by women, both as spouses and parents in ensuring that personnel can singularly remain focused on mission readiness.
Maku listed so many life – touching programmes and activities including provision of health services through the establishment of Mother and Child Clinic, floating of CDOWA School, Skills acquisition trainings, reaching out to less privileged and vulnerable families of members, initiation of scholarships and other activities too numerous to mention.
“The association can key into these activities if when fully implemented, can be of benefit to the Corps families and members of the public.
The Chairperson of Anambra State Command CDOWA, Mrs Blessing Maku , who was welcomed to the inauguration with a cheerful song by a large turnout of CDOWA members in her address expressed satisfaction with the turnout of members, just as she stated that CDOWA under her watch must be beneficial to them..
While reiterating that CDOWA is an association formed for the improvement of members, Mrs. Maku promised to give the best of her time in equipping members with the knowledge and tools to create a meaningful future to support their husbands adequately in the line of duty , and ensure peace of mind for them to concentrate at work.
She conveyed her gratitude to the ACG and the State Commandant for supporting the journey that has led to the rebirth of the association in Anambra State.
Interfacing with the officer’s wives, the Anambra State Command, CDOWA Coordinator, Deputy Commandant Prominence Ukaobi enjoined them to be active and alive to their responsibilities in supporting their husbands so that the aim of CDOWA will be achieved in Anambra State.
