20-Year-old Trader Jailed 12 Months for Stealing Sheep

A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Wednesday, sentenced a 20-year old trader , Abbas Mohammed, to one year imprisonment for stealing a sheep from a house.

The convict pleaded guilty to theft and also for having a bunch of keys which he used in gaining access to various houses.

After listening to Mohammed’s guilty plea, Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos, summarily sentenced him to one year imprisonment or a fine of N100,000.

He said the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such illegal acts.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 9, at the Mista-Ali Police station by one Abdul Mohammed , the complainant.

Gokwat said that the convict a bunch of keys, he carried around to steal from houses in the neighborhood.

He said the convict was caught with the sheep and was arrested during police investigation.

He said the convict committed the offence punishable under the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law. – NAN
