Supporters of Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election, across Anambra state, have identified Valentine Chineto Ozigbo as a worthy candidate to pick the Labour Party ticket for the forthcoming (2025) Anambra state gubernatorial election.

The umbrella body made up of about 85 registered support groups under the aegis of Labour Party Support Groups (LPSG), Anambra State led by Chief Charles Obiora Anueyiagu and members of the Obidient Movement for Valentine Chineto Ozigbo (VCO), led by Ambassador Justin Kingland, made the observation after a joint stakeholders meeting over the weekend at Awka, the Anambra state capital.

During the meeting which was held at the Labour Party State Campaign office at Udoka Estate, Awka, Obi supporters resolved to close ranks and back a credible candidate that would beat the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo, at the poll during the governorship.

In a communique released after the meeting, the coalition also appealed to the Labour Party leadership in the state and national levels to work towards producing a credible candidate capable of squaring up against the incumbent All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governor and winning the poll.

The group identified Ozigbo as a key player in the quest to unseat Governor Soludo and urged him to step into the race for the LP gubernatorial ticket.

The communique signed at the end of the meeting by Anueyiagu, as lead coordinator and Amb. Justin King land as Secretary General, read in parts:
“We humbly request that the Labour Party in Anambra (state) should only present a qualified candidate whose capacity can fly the party’s flag high and can conveniently contest with other party frontline candidates.

“When we talk about a competent leader that will step in and change the status quo in Anambra, no other person than Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, a corporate titan and a true Obidient, who will kickstart the new Nigeria agenda in Anambra state.

Chief Anueyiagu, the lead coordinator of Labour Party Support Groups, Anambra State, told AnambraDaily that plans were in top gear to ensure that the Obidient movement plays a key role in determining the next governor of Anambra state.

“This is the first time our members were meeting since the 2023 general elections where the Obidient movement shocked the world at the polls. This time around, we are mobilizing ourselves as the third force in the state because we know that whoever that gets our backing stands a big chance in the race.

Speaking on the proposed April convention, the ALPSUG boss disclosed that coordinators of support groups had been directed to return to trenches and get their members ready for the epic election battle.
