Anambra Commissioners Calls for Self-Help to Community Development

The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism Comrade Don Onyenji has charged Ndị Anambra to embrace the culture of making private contributions towards development of their towns and villages.

Onyenji made the call while commissioning a computer laboratory center built by the Akwu-ukwu Improvement Union (AIU), Gabon branch for St John’s secondary School Akwu-ukwu.

The Commissioner commended members of the Gabon branch of the AIU for their efforts in lifting the town and in developing the only government-owed secondary school in the area.

He also thanked Mr Basil Okwummuo for donating ten laptop computers and other supports he was giving to the school urging him to continue saying that it is the way to go.

He called on the young people to key into information communication technology (ICT) to better their lives noting that with that one can connect to the world.

He promised to facilitate the posting of science teachers into the only Government secondary school in the town in order to make it a model.

He then called on all to join hands and make the town an envy of others.

On his part, Mr Fabian Okonji urged all to join hands and build the town calling for more efforts to achieve same.

Mr Lawrence Obi thanked Akwu-ukwu and Gabon branch of the town union for their interest in the town, noting that though he has retired from Gabon but his mark will ever be indelible in the town and prayed for continued blessings on the children of Akwu-ukwu. High point on the event was presentation of excellent awards to some deserving indigenes of the community.
