Commercial Bus Sumersaults, Kills Female Passenger, Injure 2 in Anambra

A female passenger lost her life while two others sustained injuries in a ghastly motor accident along Okija-Owerri expressway in Anambra State.

The crash which occurred around 5.30pm on Thursday, involved a Nissan commercial bus with registration number: NEM608XA and Nissan Pathfinder Jeep.
An eyewitness said the Jeep driver was driving against traffic on speed from Okija axis when he suddenly hit the bus by the side.

“The bus driver lost control of his vehicle, somersaulted and crashed,” he said.

Confirming the crash, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi attributed cause of the crash to Route Violation (RTV) and Speed.

He said, “A driver identified as Mr. Kings Johnson with a Nissan commercial bus and registration number: NEM608XA belonging to Rivers Joy Mass Transit, and an unidentified driver of a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep whose registration number was not found because the driver did not stop was involved in a fatal road traffic crash on December 29, 2023 at about 17:30hrs.

“10 people comprising 4 male adults, 5 female adults and 1 male child were involved in the crash.

“One female adult was killed. One male adult and one female adult were injured
and 7 rescued unhurt.

“Before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from RS5.34 Ihialla Unit Command to the crash scene, the victims were rushed to F.S Kings Hospital Umuohi Ihembosi by the community youths while the dead victim was deposited at same hospital mortuary.

“FRSC Rescue team on ground managed the traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was removed.

Irelewuyi sympathised with the deceased family and wished the injured quick recovery.

He urged motorist to desist from one way driving as it amounts to dangerous driving and drive within safe speed limit.

“Road Safety is everyone’s business; drive to stay alive. Let’s keep our road safe from crash,” he warned.
