Celebration as ex-UNIZIK-ASUU chair emerges Ifitedunu PG in a historic election

Ifitedunu community in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State was on Thursday thrown into jubilation following emergence of former Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Stephen Ufoaroh as the new President General of Ifitedunu Town Union.

The election held at the community’s civil centre was conducted by the electoral committee under the supervision of representatives from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.

The option A4 voting system was deployed for all the contested positions, as eligible voters queued behind their preferred candidates to be counted under the presence of Army, Police, DSS Personnel and the media.

Ufoaroh polled 356 votes to emerge new PG, beating his two rivals, while Comrade Chinedu Ofodile and Hon Ike Chijoike won the positions of Vice President-General and Secretary with 424 and 631 votes respectively.

Positions of Financial Secretary, Welfare officer, Public Relations Officer, among others were voicely announced unopposed during the process.

Addressing reporters shortly after announcing the results, Returning Officer of the election, Dr. Rich Egenti described the exercise as peaceful, free and fair.

He expressed satisfaction with the manner the youth conducted themselves before, during and after the election.

He said, “This is the most transperant election in the history of Ifitedunu community conducted in a free and fair atmosphere and in the presence of all concerned citizens.

“My greatest happiness is that, those that lost during the election have congratulated the winners.

“And I strongly believe that with the emergence of Prof Ufoaroh as the new PG of this great community, the long awaited peace will be fully restored.”

Egenti appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo and sole-sponsor of the election, Pastor Ben Akabueze for providing peaceful almophere during the exercise.

In his acceptance speech, Ufaoroh thanked God for the grace of winning, pledging his readiness to work together with other executive members for the progress of the community.

He promised a difference in the leadership of the community, stressing his preparedness to serve selflessly.

Also speaking, former lawmaker representing Dunukofia Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Hon Laurence Ezeudu advised all to join hands for growth and development of the community regardless of the winners or losers.
