The Enugu State Commissioner for Information, Mr Eze Aka, says Gov. Peter Mbah’s Supreme Court affirmation is victory for democracy and the confirmation of the people’s desire.

The Supreme Court, earlier on Friday, upheld the election of Mbah as the duly elected Governor of Enugu State during the March 18 election as pronounced by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Aka in a statement on Friday, said the verdict of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, was the “ultimate triumph of the will of the people of Enugu State as expressed at the polling units”.

He reassured the people of Mbah’s resolve to tackle poverty in the state and prioritise development in all sectors.

He maintained that Mbah’s avowed commitment to move the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion by up-scaling activities in the production and agriculture sectors was already materialising.

Aka enjoined the people of the state to support Mbah’s development initiatives and be part of the present effort to transform the socioeconomic landscape of the state.

He told the opposition that the Supreme Court’s judgment had ended all litigations on the 2023 Governorship Election in the state.

According to him, what the people looked forward to is good governance and urged them to co-operate with Mbah to make Enugu State better in all ramifications.

The apex court on Friday resolved all the issues before it in favour of Mbah (PDP).

A five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba held that the Labour Party and its candidate, Chief Chijioke Edeoga, failed to prove the allegations of substantial non-compliance with the electoral law.

The court also dismissed the allegation of NYSC certificate forgery, one of the basis for which the Labour Party governorship candidate wanted the court to disqualify Mbah. (NAN)
