A 24-year old man, Azeez Jimoh, on Tuesday appeared at a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing two tricycles and phones worth N1.9 million. Jimoh, who resides at No. 19, Raimi St., Makoko, Yaba, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Jimoh, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Magaji Haruna, told the court that Jimoh committed the offences with some others still at large on Oct. 8, at No 7, Baale St., Makoko Yaba, Lagos.
Haruna said that the defendant stole the tricycles with registration numbers FKJ291 QN and KRD719 QM, belonging to Mr Oluwaseun Adimu. He said defendant also stole two Tecno phones, valued at N120, 000, belonging to Mr Oluwole Ogundola.
Haruna said that the defendant was apprehended by passers-by, while the others escaped. He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 (10) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. Y. Adefope, granted Jimoh bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Jan. 19, 2024 for mention. (NAN)
