Suspected Drug Addict Arrested for Killing, Burying Mother, Sister at Backyard in Enugu

A man identified as Somadina Orji has been arrested by police operatives for allegedly killing his mother and sister in Enugu

The suspect said to hail from Igbariam town, Anambra East LGA
in Anambra State allegedly murdered his mother, Mrs Charity Orji, and his sister, Miss Ukamaka Orji, and buried them in a shallow grave at their backyard in Enugu State.

He was nabbed on Monday, 4th December, 2023, at Umuagu Inyi, in Oji River Local Government area of Enugu State shortly after the matter was reported to the police.

According to eyewitness account, the suspect’s younger sister, who was first murdered, had been declared missing for weeks, not knowing that she was killed and buried at their backyard by the suspect said to be a drug addict.

Things took another tragic twist for the family when, the suspect, Somadina was said to have had a dispute with his younger brother and wanted to attack her but their mother stopped him and ordered him to vacate her house.

The witness recounted: “Not long after that, the mother, was allegedly killed by Somadina who also buried her in a shallow grave in their compound.

“When the younger son returned and didn’t find their mother, he raised alarm and villagers gathered. After interrogating Somadina, he confessed to killing his mother and sister.”

AnambraDaily sighted a viral video on the social media which captured the dramatic moment Somadina was ordered by angry villagers to exhume his mother’s body from the shallow grave.

The sister’s decomposed corpse was also exhumed and packed with a blue plastic bag.

In the Video, villagers were heard testifying that the deceased was a hardworking woman who sold food to feed her family. They also disclosed that the suspect was a drug addict.

The Villagers are also heard expressing the desire to bury Somadina in the same grave he buried his mother if the police would allow them.

This paper learnt that police operatives were later invited to arrest ane whisk the suspect away while remains of the mother and the sister were deposited at the mortuary.
