A chieftain of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nnewi, Anambra State, Prince Ifeamuma Nwafor Orizu has described former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh as a grassroot politician and icon in Nigeria.

He said Metu’s contributions to Nigeria’s political development were unprecedented.

Congratulating Metuh on his birthday, the party chieftain said Ndigbo and Nigerians generally were missing Metuh’s age-long political sagacity and acumen which he said made him one of the greatest Igbo politicians.

He said, “Indeed this is really a man that has contributed his quota towards the progress, political and economic development of Anambra State and Nigeria at large in various capacities.

“He was a one-time National Publicity Secretary of PDP and also leader of the party in Nnewi before he retired from active politics. As we celebrate an additional one year to his age it’s our wish and prayers that God will continue to bless, protect and add more healthy years to him.

“We are hoping, wishing and praying that you come back to active politics once again to contribute to the upliftment of humanity.”

Metuh, a former publicity secretary of the PDP resigned from the party. In a letter to the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, Metuh was quoted saying that being a member of the PDP or any political party would not allow him to work for the strategic interest and well-being of the Nigerian people.

“During my three weeks trip for medical and personal reasons, I came to the realization that I can no longer play partisan politics in Nigeria.

“The reason for this decision is that from my experience and the nature of politics and development in Nigeria, I believe that I will contribute more to democracy and good governance in Nigeria by being non-partisan.

“Being non-partisan gives me the status to work for the strategic interest and well-being of the Nigerian people without the hinderance of partisanship, “Metuh was quoted saying.
